Goods and Services Tax Identification Number is a 15-digit unique identification number assigned to every GST-registered business in India.
It is mandatory for businesses with turnover exceeding Rs 40 lakh.
Example
A restaurant bill of ₹1,000 includes GST at 18% (₹180). If the food alone costs ₹820 and GST is ₹180, the total billed is ₹1,000. Businesses can claim input tax credit on GST paid.
