AUM stands for Assets Under Management.
It is the total market value of all investments managed by a mutual fund, asset management company, portfolio manager, or wealth advisor on behalf of clients. AUM is a key indicator of the size, market acceptance, and competitive standing of an AMC. As of early 2024, the Indian mutual fund industry AUM crossed ₹60 lakh crore, with equity funds accounting for roughly half. SEBI uses AUM thresholds to classify fund sizes and apply additional governance norms.
